In 2010 I followed the rear of the Tour on the back of a motorbike. During the four Pyrenee stages I was covering
what was going on in the vicinity of the 'voiture balai'.
This 'broomcar' is accompanied by gendarmes and marks the end of the race. It picks up riders who abandon the course voluntarily, because of an injury or who are being told to do so by the race director.
